make my eyes generous

Generous: providing more than the amount that is needed or normal : abundant or ample

Sometimes you're a great friend, but you get stabbed in the back a few times.
Maybe it's the fourth or fifth time that you have gone out of your way to help a friend and they never even pause to say thank you.
You treat someone with such kindness, only to find out they have been sabotaging you.

It happens to all of us.

Here's the thing: it's SO easy to be frustrated, but we are called to live to a higher standard than grudges and unfair expectations. We are designed to extend forgiveness and look towards others from a perspective of favor and love; a perspective of generosity.

This is a prayer that has resinated with me deeply. Looking at others through generous eyes isn't something that comes naturally. It takes dedication, prayer, and practice. We are tested daily and invited to trust that a piece of the forgiveness that Christ showed towards us on the cross lives within us. When we step out and extend that free grace to others, we are transformed as we have the opportunity to let go of unpaid debts and bondages that we hold in our hearts.

Try it today. Pray for eyes that are generous towards others and that look at the world with favor. Give others, and even yourself, a break and let go of the expectations. We are all human, imperfect, and in desperate need of unfailing and perfect grace.

Happy Friday Eve, everyone :)
